West-Trans Equipment commenced operations in 1988 in Mulgrave NSW, on the north western outskirts of Sydney. Back then it was a small engineering shop employing 10 people building customer tipper bodies, truck trays and skip loaders.

In 1994 Jim Whittle and his father bought the business, and started the transformation into Australia’s leading skip loader and hook lift manufacturing business, and in 2009 it became the home of HMF vehicle loading cranes in Australia.

Through constantly listening to its customers, and understanding the unique requirements of the Australian market, Jim set about designing a range of skip loaders that combined tough simple engineering, with built in durability, and clever geometry, providing compact, low fold height, machines that have proven tough over 25 years of operation.

West-Trans Equipment now employs more than 70 people in 5 locations Australia wide, and through its service partners, provides technical and service support in every state and territory. With sales and service expertise Nationally, there is always someone local that you can talk to about your unique requirements.

I have been dealing with Jim Whittle & Jim Brough for years now and couldn’t fault their customer focus and quality of the products they sell. Our new HMF 4020 crane is probably the best crane we have bought for the Rocla contract

Peter Schreiterer, Schreiterer Transport Sydney

I buy the waste equipment from West-Trans Equipment because I know they will add the design changes that I need to make the equipment work more effectively for our business, and I know, from experience, that the gear lasts in our rugged conditions. My experience with Grant Sweeting at West-Trans Brisbane also gives me the confidence of knowing that I’ll get the right gear each and every time.

I’ve been working in the brick industry at Austral Bricks for almost 30 years and have had a lot of experience with truck cranes. Although I’m new to a radio controlled unit, I am very happy with the way the crane operates, it’s speed and capacity, and especially the way Jim Brough looked after me at West-Trans

Ray Debono, Austral Bricks contractor, Sydney

Following an earlier experience where West-Trans built a bogie drive tipper, we were more than happy with the quality and service that they offered, and as Gary, a family member, had used a West-Trans DS80s belonging to North shore skips, they felt it would be a good move. The experience to date has been a good one

James and Kerry Wheeler, Wheelers Skip Bins

We’ve been buying skip loaders off West-Trans for almost 20 years and have always found their products to be reliable and the service has always been there for us. We are looking at expanding our fleet further and will definitely look at more West-Trans equipment

Wayne Brown, Brown Bros

We always go with West-Trans because they have always provided an outstanding service for us and we find that there are never any problems and they have always been there to support us with any issues. Over the last 10 years that we have used their products Jim Whittle, Jim Brough and Steve Shanks have always been there for me
